Straight Hair without Heat

Curly hair can be a blessing and a problem. If you’ve got curly hair, you know that you’re often limited to styles that are specifically for that type of hair, and they’re often very limited. Some of the most stylish looks work well with hair that’s got just enough wave or even stick straight hair.

To get that look, I’ve always used an electrically heated straightening iron to get the effect, but that extra heat can leave my hair looking tired and damaged. That’s not a look I want to achieve. I found this great video that worked miracles.

It takes a bit of time, but then, so does straightening your hair with an iron. There is absolutely no heat involved and most of the time spend is the night before, so you don’t have to get up early to get the look you want. I think you’ll like how easy—wait; I don’t mean easy—simple this idea is.

It’s not easy to do the first time or so, but the more you do it, the easier it becomes. It’s taken me two tries, which I did on the weekend, to get it right, but now, like most learned talents, it goes relatively fast and faster each time I use it. I love the look I get, and I adore the fact I don’t damage my hair with all that heat.

How to Do it?

  • First, while your hair is still wet, get your hair into a tight ponytail. We recommend doing this with a fine tooth comb to get stray hairs to lay flat really. It’s important that the ponytail stays tight so when the roots dry out they will lay flat on your head.
  • Keep the strand ends damp by converting the ponytail into a bun. Keep your hair like this for an hour or so.
  • Next, release the bun and brush out your hair. Take one-inch sections of your hair and wrap them around your head, almost like a milk braid. Secure each section to your head with two or three bobby pins.
  • When you’ve finished, wrap your head with a scarf if you plan on sleeping while you’re straightening your hair. If you keep your hair like this for a minimum of five hours, you should have beautiful, straightened hair!
