Video: How to Cut Perfect Side Swept Bangs at Home

If you’ve ever tried to cut your own hair, you know that it can be a bit of frustration, particularly if you’re trying to get even lines. Creating a new look with bangs can even be scarier.

It’s hard to know where to start to get a look that isn’t geeky or outdated.

I decided it was time for a new look, so I ventured into the bathroom, the room with the only great mirror and lighting, to cut my bangs. I never had bangs before, so trying to figure out what I wanted took some time.

Sometimes, instead of stylish, bangs can make you look outdated when cutting wrong, such as super short bangs. Every time I see these, I think of the time my daughter cut her own hair right before school pictures.

She was a first-grader at the time, so the fashion implications were limited.

Some of the tips given in the video were extremely helpful, like fluffing out the bangs with a curling iron before doing the final clipping.

That helps give a good feel for the look you want to accomplish when you’re finished cutting finally.

Start cutting hair in a longer length to have some wiggle room

Watching someone do it always makes any task easier, and this did for me. Now that I know to part the triangle, twist, and cut, I think anything is possible.

I will also follow that tip that cutting it longer is better. You can always clip the bangs shorter as you go, but taping the hair back on isn’t an option.

① Section your hair into a triangle and take a comb and where it lifts off is where you’re going to start your bangs up. You don’t want to start your bangs too far forward because they can make your head look small.② Part your hair down and comb through the bangs. Then, take a clip and pin  your other hair back, making sure they come over far enough on each sides.③Once you make sure you have the hairs on each side that will cover your face on your forehead, just give them a good comb through and TWIST them, grab and pull them down.https://res.cloudinary.com/calleigh1224/video/upload/v1559784319/Pull_and_Twist_it_sgpboy.mp4
④ Start gradually by cutting longer length and go from there then cut them.  Then, go ahead and comb it through again. Do the same method TWIST, grab and pull the hair down and cut off some more to your desired length.⑤ Your bangs will flare up after cutting, so try to curl them under a little bit by using a curling iron or style them.

As you can see, the sides are longer which is our intent here, but we also want our top to look blunt and straight.
